IEM Katowice 2021 to be played in crowdless studio environment
CMD368 – ESL has revealed that the IEM Katowice 2021 has been officially moved to an in studio environment. According to the press release, “the original plan would have seen a live audience in the legendary Spodek Arena, however, in light of the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic and with the wellbeing of teams, staff and crew being the number one priority, the decision has been taken to move the competition to a studio environment.”
ESL will continue to evaluate the situation based on the latest guidelines provided by the proper government and safety officials as they move forward. The company also stated that would have a “fallback contingency plan” of moving the event to an online format if needed. A total of $1,000,000 will be up for grabs at the 24 team event which will also grant the winners Intel Grand Slam status as a Championship event.
Those who have tickets will be able to keep the tickets until the 2022 event or request a refund. The schedule for IEM Katowice 2021 is as follows:
- February 16-17 Play-In (unchanged)
- February 18-21 Group Stage (unchanged)
- February 26-28 Play offs (unchanged)
