PGL announce $2 million CSGO Major in Stockholm starting October 23rd

CMD368 – PGL will host the next Counter-Strike Major in Stockholm, Sweden. The tournament organizer has revealed its plans to host the Major from October 23rd to November 7th with the playoffs being held in the Ericsson Globe alongside a live audience of up to 16,000. The Ericsson Globe has played host to several events over the years including the 2014 DreamHack Invitational and DreamHack Masters Stockholm 2018. In addition, DOTA 2’s biggest event, The International was set to be held there in 2020 prior to the COVID-19 pandemic causing its cancellation.

It is important to note that COVID-19 is not over and PGL has stated that the event will only take place as planned if “all safety conditions to hold live competitive events are met by that time.” The event will have $2 million up for grabs and be streamed in 4K resolution, the first Major to have that capability be put to use. In addition, they’ll continue the trend of implementing augmented reality to make the experience more engaging and innovative.

This will be PGL’s third Major, having played part in Cluj-Napoca 2015 and Kraków 2017. “First of all, my colleagues and I are passionate fans of CS. We grew up and watched this game getting bigger and bigger, just at the same pace as our development as a company,” Silviu Stroie, CEO of PGL said. “We have timeless memories with our past Counter-Strike shows, and, honestly, we owe a lot to this game, as players and as a company. We believe that this community deserves the best product this franchise has ever seen. Our goal is to celebrate the game in the best way possible, and we will work hard for this”
